We’ve all listened to a song and wondered what it’s about.
What inspired this?
Who inspired this?
But oftentimes we never get an answer.
Personally, I don’t mind. I think a song with too much detail would be much more difficult to relate to. How would we find ourselves and our relationships in the music if it vividly described one we were never a part of? I like the vagueness of great lyrics. Those that invite you in with their familiarity and blow your mind with their simplified truths.
For my job, I spent a lot of time in the car, so I’m constantly listening to music. And while I’m definitely one to partake in innocent jam sessions, there are also times when heavy traffic and good lyrics can cause my mind to wander, piecing together a story about the songs that play: How they were written, why they were written and who they were written by or for. And while I often find that the answers I come up with are much different than I imagine the truth to be, they still seem to satisfy my curiosity.
Lives in the Lyrics is the product of this curiosity. It’s a series of short stories based on a variety of different songs. These stories are all purely fiction (at least as far as I know) and are written just for fun. I hope you enjoy!
